crochet jute basket

2005/09/28

I title this picture: “Jute basket on wrinkley red shirt”

DSCF1020

This basket is made with heavy duty jute twine that would be found in the hardware department. I picked some up today when I stopped for shampoo and was really excited to start something. I used basic crochet in the round rules to make the basket:

Pattern
If K hook is used, basket measures 4 1/4 inches around and 3 inches high.
Chain 4. Join to first chain to form ring.
1: Ch 1. 8 sc in ring, join.
2: Ch 1. 2 sc in each sc around, join.
3: Ch 1. (2 sc in next sc, sc in next sc) around, join.
4: Ch 1. (2 sc in next sc, sc in next sc, sc in next sc) around, join.
5: Ch 1. (2 sc in next sc, sc in next sc, sc in next sc, sc in next sc) around, join.
6: This row in front loop only to form base. Ch 1. ( sc in next sc) around, join.
7-15. Ch 1. (sc in next sc) around, join (Alternately, you can not join and mark the first stitch of each row instead).
16. Optional – Slip stitch around to form finished edge.
