2014-04-26 The Spellbinder die I regret

Do you have a Spellbinder die that you just had to have? I do…it is the Botanical Swirls Expandable die. And sorry to say, I regret having gotten it. I know, I can hear some of you already…”but that’s my favorite die!” The first time I used this I cut my finger on one of the little sharp edges. Plus, it’s a lot of work. The edges do not cut out; you get to hand trim it. That’s what must make it expandable although I’ve never used it that way.

I’ve been sorting through my things and took a break from packing tonight and made this card. Instead of trying to cut with the die I opted for embossing instead.

The medallion is the only stamping on this card. It is by Stampin Up from the set A Round Array. It was quick and easy to add as it has a matching punch. You can see the glue is still wet in the photo. No worries! It dries clear.

Here you can see some of the texture and shimmer. I’ve added multi-colors of distress ink blending from wheat and then on through 3-4 shades of greens. Once that was done I sprayed liberally with gold PearlEx. See all the little splatter marks? Those were made using Blow-Pens. Does any body remember those? See what fun things you find while cleaning?

Just one more angle before you leave. The arrangement in the middle is made up of Tulle, crochet thread a die cut from the Cricut cartridge Serenade and of course the stamped image.

Very pretty, Bonnie! There are not TOO many items that I regret buying, but there certainly are a few. Good for you for cleaning out some things. I remember buying our daughter blow pens. I wonder if she still has them:) (I very much doubt it, as she is not a “saver.”) Have a great Sunday. Enjoy the rainy day – if it’s raining there like it is here. I have NO plans for the day and hope to spend all day in my stamping/computer room.

I have two of the expandable dies and never thought to use them to emboss instead. When used as a die, they are extra work to attach them to a card base but can be pretty. I like what you did with your card!
