2010-04-10 sketch challenge using just scraps

2010/04/10

This is the sketch that I was given to create a card for a swap that I am doing. It is a 1-4-1 swap and each of us will get the same sketch back. It is so fun to see what other’s do with the same layout.

I went to the inspiration box to see what I had on hand. From the sketch you can see I only need small panels of this and that…

Here is something that I found in the box:

What is THAT? You ask…it is a piece of encaustic art. Can you see the hills, plants and sky in this randomly created scenry scape? Here is a link to how I made this piece months and months ago…Encaustic art

I knew that I would never use it as a full scenery background so I decieded to hack it up and use it as pieces.

I fliipped the scenery piece on it’s side and punched it to get the rippled uneven line as designated in the sketch. (EK Success punch) I added a coordinating piece of DSP under the punched edge, added a narror ribbon to divide the two halves, added a sentiment and homemade loopy bow.

I am not totally sure what the outside lines are on the sketch, but I added them into my design to make sure I covered all of my bases. See the silver brads in the corners? I used silver metallic sewing thread and wrapped it around each brad until I had the grid lines as shown in the sketch.

Everything used to design this card came from the inspiration box except the ribbon and silver brads. The little silver sticker brads on the matted word medallion are recycled too. They fell off a really pretty RAK card that I had received in the mail. They have been stuck to the corner of my desk for the longest time. My hand brushed across them and in a sudden “light bulb moment” I realized how perfect they would be on my card. And by golly, I was right. So thank you to whomever that original card came from!

The only rubber stamp used is by Stampin’ Up.
