Not only did I receive a really nice Christmas card from my friend Becky, but I also received a set of 3 hand made pot holders. That are to say the least, totally adorable!! I am going to have to get the instructions from her for sure!!
Thank you Becky!

And here a close up of one of the little pot holders. It is about the size of a glass coaster.

Turtle Hot Pad

Dark green yarn; Light green yart; Metal bottle caps from either beer or soda bottles

BODY: Chain 3; close so you have a ring, single crochet 5 in the hole. Double crochet in those 5. Repeat row (total 20 stitches). Decrease in those 20 (10 stitches left). Single crochet for two rows. Insert cap and close. I weaved around the last row and pulled like a draw string.

HEAD: Chain 3, close so you have a ring, single crochet 8 in that hole. Double crochet in those 8. Single crochet the 16 and in the next 4 rows. Decrease 4 times then single crochet the remaining 8. Single crochet the next 4 rows. Use darker green and stitch mouth and eyes.

FEET: Chain 3, close so you have a ring. Single crochet 5 in that hole. Double crochet in those 5. Single crochet in those 10 stitches. Repeat for the next three rows. Decrease two times and single crochet the last 6 stitches. Single crochet 8 stitches.

I sort of whip stitch the bottoms by connecting 2 rows of 3, 2 rows of 4 and 1 row of 5. Then I connect those together.

Oh – how adorable! If you get the directions on how to make them – please share! My Mom LOVES turtles and they are ALL OVER her kitchen! So this would be the BEST gift to give her – just to say “I love you”. Thanks for showing the photos and I hope to find directions soon! Have a great weekend! SUe-Lynn in PA

I made one of these a long time ago (years and years ago — I’m 70 now LOL). I gave it to my aunt who is now deceased and the hot pad has disappeared. I have lost my pattern and have been searching all over the internet for it, and am delighted to have now found it. Thank you so much for sharing the pattern with us!
