2013-02-19 February Shoebox Gathering — Chrissy

2013/02/19

This great night scene was brought to our Shoebox meeting by Chrissy. It taught me a new technique and I love how it turned out.

We used a white gel pen to outline the tree and fence to give it a snow look. Next we took some clear glimmer paint and painted over the white gel pen. This softened the white from looking to harsh.

Doesn’t this look like a blustery winter night?

Thanks to Chrissy for bringing this project!

This is so pretty!! You have me wondering about a few things you didn’t mention in your post. Is the image heat embossed with embossing powder? And was the paper it is stamped on that color or did you sponge the color on or something of the sort? Since the image is dark and the sentiment is light I’m wondering how you did it. Maybe the sentiment was embossed in white? Just being my curious self! LOL!

The piece you are asking about is dark blue. I took a pearl white ink pad and swiped it across the black embossed images. The black images were outlined in white gel pen then softened with a clear glitter medium tracing over the top of the white lines with a paint brush. The verse is stamped using a metallic silver ink pad. Hope that helps you to understand!

Lovely card Bonnie – wished I lived in your neck of the woods – would so like a group to play with

Thanks, Chrissy, for doing this as I have the stamp set and never used it yet! Lots of fun and unusual techniques.

Thanks so much. Bonnie! Since you had only described how you used the white gel pen and clear glimmer paint, I was curious about the rest of the process. I thought it looked like lots of different techniques going on, but I don’t always trust my interpretation of a photo! LOL! I’m sure this one is even prettier in person!
